De Lara Featheration b.v. is a family owned company, founded by Abraham de Lara in 1851.

Originally only hides were traded like rabbit, goose and swan, destined for mainly the shoe- and cosmetic industries. Remember the old-fashioned powder puffs made of real swan downs?

 

In the roaring twenties, as the fashion demanded, the trade changed into loose feathers for hats and head-dresses. Ostrich feathers were imported from South-Africa. From warehouses along a canal in the old city of Amsterdam, the feathers were traded all over the world and the business was booming.

 

Nowadays the company is located in Almere, where there are better logistical facilities.

In the meantime the business has extended and diversified into feathers and ready-made products destined for carnival, decoration, events, fashion, fly-fishing, hobby, promotion, theatre, etc. etc.

 

The company is internationally focussed. We have clients throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
